There is an ancient Chinese proverb that says, “An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstances. The thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break.”

I feel like not many people are aware of this program available to new parents who are adopting or the fact that there are 100’s of photographers nationwide who offer their services, love and time for this organization.

About Red Thread Sessions

Red Thread Sessions was started in 2011 by two custom photographers in Texas and Maryland, both whom added to their families through adoption. Feeling the need in their communities to celebrate the beauty of adoption through photography, Red Thread Sessions was born. Soon after, many other photographers throughout the U.S. felt moved to donate their time as well. Red Thread sessions not only captures family portraits of new families, it also capture the precious, happy, confusing, exciting, exhausting, traumatic, life-changing time that is so often brief and fleeting in the life of an adoptive family.

Why “Red Thread” Sessions?

The Ancient Chinese Proverb is a commonly-used saying within the adoption community. It symbolizes the bond that all adoptive children have with their adoptive parents, even before they meet. An invisible “red thread” connects them to the people they are destined to meet. Although this Proverb truly relates to all people, it has a particularly strong connection to adoptive families and seemed like the perfect name for this organization.

I wanted to also take a few moments and explain why I became a Red Thread Photographer. Even though my husband and I have never adopted, it’s always been something deep on my heart and I find myself drawn to families who’ve adopted. When I was a little girl, my Barbie dolls always had at least 1 family who adopted. I imagine this originally came from my Aunt and Uncle adopting all of their babies, 4 in all, and from all different backgrounds and reasons. I love each and every one of their stories. I also have friends who were adopted and other friends who have adopted or are planning to adopt. I love the heart behind it. The love. The instant bond that makes you a family. It doesn’t matter how you became a family. Just that you ARE. And that right there is why I became a Red Thread Session Photographer. My extended family is made up of all kinds from all over. Some were born into. Some were adopted. Some have been from a divorced family and their father or mother married into our family and we gained cousins and Aunt’s and Uncle’s. I have half siblings and it doesn’t make a difference how I feel about them. Family is family no matter how they arrived. ❤

All that being said, these sessions are free (travel fee’s may apply) and are limited to how many I can accept each year!! In order to comply with the Red Thread guidelines, the adoption session needs to be completed within 3 months of the child coming home (barring any unusual situations where health complications prohibit that from happening). I offer a free session, your choice of 5 digital images selected from your finished proof gallery and a set of 4×6 proof images with a 15% discount on any optional print/product purchases. Dover New Philadelphia OH baby photographer | finn’s 7 month studio session

Hello Finn! We meet again. I look forward to this baby boy’s milestone sessions every few months. His Momma shares my love of simplicity and keeping the focus solely on baby. ❤ I mean, who can improve on his sweetness?! 🙂 To prove it to you, you can go here to view his newborn session. We did do an adorable photo to incorporate his big brother’s love of baseball in Finn’s newborn portraits. We plan on trying something with them again for his 9 month shoot to show how much he’s grown! ❤ I do love showing baby’s growth and recreating photos in that way. I’m looking forward to it and it’s a great keepsake for parents to have.

Dover New Philadelphia OH Photographer | Project 52 | love

Another week has passed which means it’s once again time for our weekly Finding Me: Project 52 blog circle post!!!! This week’s theme is *love*. ❤ Of course, right? 😉 Surprisingly, this is the theme that stumped me. It finally hit me on Sunday morning after looking at the flowers my husband bought for the girls on what I wanted to do. I really am loving the outcome!!! And why not also include some photos of my 3 littlest loves that I took this week? Aren’t they so sweet and lovey? Don’t let them fool you… They were plotting something I’m sure… HA!

And then as we were reading bedtime stories tonight, I knew I wanted this recorded in my *love* photos as well. This is one of my favorite times of the day. We’re winding down. He snuggles with me. Akron OH children’s photographer | quick 2 year milestone session + a big brother

Ahhhhh 2 year olds. ❤ Their sessions are either tons of fun and full of giggles… or the opposite. 😉 In Cali’s instance, it was giggles that won out. 🙂 Her Mom and I knew we had to work fast with this one so it was a short and sweet milestone session. And then of course big brother had to stand in front of my camera too. 😛 I love his toothy grin!!

Mineral City OH newborn baby & family photographer | 5 days new Juliana

This adorable baby girl’s Daddy works with my husband (okay, my husband sorta works for her Dad but shhhhhh don’t tell my husband that 😉 LOL). Not only that, but her parents are also friends. That makes the best kind of client. They came from Mineral City to visit my studio back in December. They even bought me lunch. Win win for me! Oh and Juliana’s father is also a Dennison cop… so the boys had better watch out when she grows up! 🙂

Carrollton Ohio first birthday photographer | isaiah’s sprinkle smash cake session

Isaiah recently saved me and this adorable sprinkle smash cake from Sugarfuse. Due to sickness, I had a cancellation so his Mom booked this last minute cake smash mini session in my Tuscarawas County OH studio. 🙂 I’m so glad I was able to meet him! Such a little sweetheart! He was a little wary of really digging in, but Mom gave him a taste of the frosting and then he was more apt to at least scoop the frosting and sprinkles off of the cake. 🙂

Dover New Philadelphia OH Photographer | Project 52 | imagination

Oh my word!!! This is a FUN theme!!! You’re for sure going to want to check out ALL of our blogs this week!!! 🙂

I really hadn’t messed around with this type of Photoshopping images so this took some playing and learning on my part. I love that it really pushed me out of my comfort zone!!

The first image I attempted was my oldest daughter, Emma, and her books. She LOVES to read so we wanted to document her in this stage. Her composite was fairly simple. I took a shot of the books stacked up and then I photographed her sitting on a stool and I combined the 2 with some behind the scenes Photoshop magic. 😉 She is so excited about her finished photo that she’s asked if I could print it as a poster for her bedroom. How fun!

Liam’s photo was quite a lot more difficult. First off, he’s 3 and he’s very much not a fan of my camera. He refused to wear the clothes I chose for him. And we ended up changing up the entire idea and instead went with whatever he decided to do. Isn’t that the typical life with a toddler? LOL I do love the end result though!! Don’t you? He giggles every time that he sees it too and says “Oh I’m small Liam! Look Mommy! That dolphin’s gonna gobble my fishie! Stay awayyyyyy shark! Oh no!” And then all of that is typically followed by “Let’s go! I want a bubble bath please!!!” Love this little boy and his fun imagination!!Izzy Grace’s chalkboard image was the last one we got around to finishing. She and I discussed what we wanted to do at the beginning of the week but things kept happening and we would put it off another day for one reason or another. (Kind of like the same reason I have yet to call the Preschool up again to set up another date for a tour for Liam?! OOPS!). Isabella’s photo was a lot of fun to execute!! I knew that I didn’t want a generic chalkboard stock image in the background. I wanted it to be HER drawing. So she set to work on that this morning. Then immediately following a studio session on Saturday morning, I told her we would photograph her “flying”. And of course we needed to add in her beloved Duffy Bear who goes everywhere else with her. It’s only natural he would go on a flying adventure through her chalkboard drawing wonderland too!!! 😛

Bolivar Ohio newborn & baby photographer | Dover OH | 4 days new ariana

This beautiful baby girl and her parents traveled from Bolivar and visited my Midvale Ohio studio back in December for her newborn photo session.

7 lbs 7 oz and 19 inches of snuggly perfection at 4 days new ❤

Tuscarawas County Ohio baby + child photographer | Dover New Philadelphia OH | Mack + Hudson

We all know that 6 month baby sessions are high on my favorite things to photograph list. 🙂 Add in a sweet 3 year old brother and it’s a big win in my book! 🙂 Meet Mack (3 years old) and Hudson (6 months old). These adorable brothers recently moved to Ohio from Virgina along with their big sister and Mom & Dad. I get to see big sister again in just a few short weeks for her 6 year old studio session and Hudson’s 9 month milestone as well. 😀

I cannot get over Hudson’s flyaway hair-do! Can he be any more precious?! And Mack & his tie? I die. ❤

Fun tidbit: Mack has had his photo taken with the same tie for every milestone session beginning with his newborn shoot. The photographer they used in Virginia can be found here. She is pretty amazing. And that makes me feel even more special and happy that these little one’s Momma chose *ME* as their new Ohio photographer. ❤ Thank you Natisha!
